Trash & recovery

Soft delete by default. The _Trash folder. External delete recovery.

Marje does not permanently delete anything by default. There is no trap door.

How delete works

Anything you delete moves to /_Trash/ with a manifest entry that records when and from where. Restore by dragging it back, or delete permanently from the Trash panel.

External delete recovery

If you delete a file from Explorer or Finder outside the app, the file watcher detects it and copies a recovery copy to .marje/recovery/ before the deletion completes. The original is recoverable from there.

Retention

Trash retention is configurable per folder via retention policies. Default policies are conservative — files stay until you empty trash yourself. Enterprise admins can set tighter org-wide policies.
