The short version

Marje is a local-first desktop app. Your vault stays on your machine. We do not have a copy of your files, your notes, your contacts, or your AI conversations.

What we do collect

• License key activation — we know your email and which licenses you have purchased.
• Marketplace purchases — processed by Stripe; we receive transaction metadata.
• Crash reports — opt-in. Stack traces, OS version, app version. No file contents.
• Update checks — the app pings our update server with the version it is running.

What we do not collect

• Your file contents, file names, or folder structure.
• Your AI prompts or AI responses.
• Your search history or click history inside the app.
• Telemetry on how you use the app, beyond opt-in crash reports.

Cloud sync (optional)

If you turn on cloud sync, your files are encrypted on your device with a key that never leaves your device, then uploaded to the cloud provider you chose. We do not have access to your encryption key. Your cloud provider sees ciphertext.

AI providers (optional)

If you connect Claude (or another supported provider) via the built-in MCP server, you are the direct customer of that provider. Your prompts and the file content you send go to them under their terms. We do not relay or store any of it.
